If you are looking for somewhere to grab a healthy lunch (or dinner) in DTLA, head straight to SweetGreen in the base of the Cal Edison Building at 5th and Grand. My husband and I stopped in SweetGreen a few weeks ago, and the people who work there could not be nicer. All their salads and bowls are made to order. You can create your own from their many options of fresh ingredients or you can order one of their signature salads.
My husband went for Nancy’s Chopped Salad ($12.50) made with organic salami, pickled celery, red onion, tomato, sliced cucumber, shaved parmesan, hot chickpeas, chopped romaine, shredded kale, dried oregano and Nancy’s vinaigrette. It was a hit!
I ordered the Squash + Blue Cheese ($9.50) from their seasonal menu. It was shredded kale, organic mesclun, local blue cheese, roasted squash, raisins, apples, umani walnuts and a balsamic vinaigrette. I really enjoyed it, but again, this was a few week’s ago so it was their Winter menu. They have since revealed their Spring menu. I’m sure they can recreate the winter salad as a “create your own” order.
SweetGreen is a great option for a healthy meal. Oh, and bring your credit or debit card. They don’t use cash at this place! It is open from 10:30am until 8pm Monday through Friday. It is closed on Saturday and Sunday.
