If you are looking for a some delicious Italian food, you need to check out Anatra.  It’s located on East 8th Street (yes, east of Main Street) at Santee Street in the Fashion District.  And yes, the restaurant is a bit ahead of the neighborhood, but isn’t that why we love Downtown?  They have done a really nice job of creating a beautiful space.

Okay, let’s talk about the food.  It’s Northern Italian cuisine with some French flare… and it’s delicious.  The menu can be a little intimidating because there are a lot of rich dishes like Foie Gras, quail and duck, but this is where you get the opportunity to experience new flavors.  I started with the Lasagna ($24) made with rabbit ragu, béchamel and cantal cheese.  My husband (who is a very conservative eater) started with the Lobster appetizer ($25).  It was a poached lobster tail on green pea & shallot panna cotta topped with a lemon vinaigrette.  Okay, my lasagna portion was quite generous.  His lobster portion was on the smaller side.   As for flavor, the lobster was delicious… and the lasagna?  It was creamy and savory.  This was the first time I have tried rabbit, and I loved it.  Even my picky husband tried it, and he agreed.

For our main courses, I went for the Sea Bass ($29) served on cauliflower purée and asparagus with a prosecco citrus sauce.  My husband surprised me and ordered the Gnocchi ($18) made with veal shoulder ragu and pecorino romano.  The fish was a perfect dish to follow the decedent lasagna.  It was fresh and clean, but still full of flavor thanks to the prosecco citrus sauce.  Now, the dish of the night… the gnocchi.  This was not the traditional dense potato pasta balls you get at most Italian restaurants.  Anatra’s gnocchi is straight from Northern Italy.  It’s light and airy like little fluffy clouds.  Seriously, this gnocchi will probably top our list of 2018 favorite foods in DTLA.  When you go to Anatra, you must order the gnocchi.

The service at Anatra was spot-on.  Our server was there to answer our questions and make suggestions.  The chef came out of the kitchen to check on the meals.  The meal was made with high quality meats and ingredients.  It was a delicious dinner.  If you are looking for a great night out, make your reservations for Anatra now.
