NEW RESTAURANT ALERT: GULP SUSHI ALEHOUSE OPENS INSIDE 7TH AT FIG

It was back in April when DTLAexplorer.com told you that City Tavern shut down inside the 7th at Fig shopping complex, and that it will be replaced with Gulp Ale House and Sushi.  Well, flash forward a few months, and it’s time to tell you that Gulp DTLA is now open.  Although the restaurant’s website still says “Coming Soon,” it’s open for business.

Gulp describes itself as a “Fusion Alehouse.”  They offer up 3 dozen different craft beers along with a full bar and traditional pub food, but they also have a full sushi bar.  The vibe and the food have an Asian influence.  DTLAexplorer got a sneak preview of the new restaurant, and we like what we saw… and tasted.   We started with an order of the Chicken Wings that were served with a side of kimchi.  That was followed by their DTLA Roll.  My husband went for the “Not the Club Sandwich” that was made with grilled chicken breast, bacon, lettuce and tomato with aioli on wheat bread.  I went for the Artisan Sausage Plate.  It was Andouille and Bratwurst served with a spear of grilled baguette, sesame slaw, tomato relish and three dipping sauces.  Of course I washed it all down with a draft beer.

When you arrive at Gulp you get to pick your experience.  If you are looking for a friendly vibe, head to the bar.  If you want a little privacy, you can asked to be seated at a high top table in the main dining area, and if you want the full sushi experience, you can be seated at the sushi bar.   Gulp has the potential to be a new local hangout.  It’s a great place to meet up with friends to grab a drink and bite to eat.  It’s also a great place to have lunch or dinner.

Oh, Gulp offers up All Day Drink Specials: Monday $6 Mules, Local Tap Tuesdays, Wine Wednesdays, Thirsty Thursdays, Friday Flights and Bottomless Mimosas on Saturday and Sundays.  Yep, see you at the bar!
