If you can’t wait until Sunday to get your Smorgasburg fix, we have good news…. the Smorgasburg favorite Banh Oui is taking over the Rooftop at the Standard in DTLA for the summer. Banh Oui, the popular Vietnamese and French fusion concept, has created some new dishes exclusively for it’s residency at The Standard. You can find Banh Oui atop The Standard Monday through Friday from noon to 7pm.
We got to sample some of the new Banh Oui creations like the Citrus Albacore Ceviche ($16) with whipped Lebnah, cherry tomatoes, fresno chilies, coriander and shrimp chips. Sorry there is no photo. My husband scarfed it down before I could take a picture. I loved the Sweet Potato Banh Oui ($12) with Sriracha mayo, pickled daikon and carrot, cucumber, mint, scallion, cilantro and jalapeno. Oh, there’s no photo of this either, my bad. I was hungry and it looked so good! Sorry.
When you head upstairs, be sure to try the Oui Burger ($16) with caramelized onion, tomato, shredded lettuce, cilantro, mint, oui spread and chicken liver pate. Yes, the burger has pate on it. Many of the menu items do, like the Fried Chicken Sandwich ($16) made with sesame-panko breaded organic Mary’s Chicken breast, bread and butter pickles, pickled jalapeno, garlic puree and the pate. Oh, and don’t miss the Pork Belly Banh Oui ($14) with pickled carrot and daikon, cucumber, jalapeno, scallion, mint, cilantro, mayo and the pate.
We did not find it on the menu posted online, but if they are serving up the Coconut Cream Cake, get it. It’s delicious. If you are looking for a new place to grab lunch in DTLA, or some place to get dinner on the way home from work, you need to check out Banh Oui on the Rooftop at The Standard, or you can wait until Sunday and find them at Smorgasburg.
