DTLA is getting a new Indian restaurant.  A sign is now hanging outside the former EJ’S Bites location on Figueroa, just north of Olympic Boulevard in South Park.  The space has been empty for a few months since EJ’s Bite’s shut down without warning in April.  The new restaurant is call Mr. Masala.  There is still a lot of work to be done inside the restaurant.  Right now, there is no official opening date.  The sign just reads “coming soon.”

Currently, there are only a few restaurants in DTLA that serve up Indian food.  If you want a sit-down Indian restaurant, you need to head to Badmaash (on E. 2nd Street) or Gill’s (inside the Stillwater Hotel).  There are also three Saffron Indian fast-food locations in DTLA at California Plaza, City National Plaza and in Fig at 7th.

It will be interesting to see if Mr. Masala can draw enough customers from L.A. Live to survive in a location that couldn’t sustain enough business for EJ’s Bites and Grand Cucina.
