MIKKELLER BAR IS A BEER HALL AND RESTAURANT IN THE CENTER OF DTLA’S FASTEST GROWING NEIGHBORHOOD

DTLAexplorer first told you about Mikkeller Bar back in January 2016.  Well, after a long wait, what’s touted as “the best beer bar in Los Angeles” is now open.  Mikkeller Bar is located at the corner of Olympic and Hill, an intersection that has seen a complete transformation the last year.  The bar now lives inside a beautifully remodeled building that was once the abandoned Discount Tire Company.  The place is huge, covering more than 7,500 square feet.  The main dining area seats about 150 people.  The place has a beer hall vibe, but a classy beer hall.

They also serve creative craft cocktails like the Eastside ($15) made with Mikkeller Gin, cucumber, mint and lime.  If I didn’t know better, I would think I was drinking some healthy juice tonic. Delicious!

The Mikkeller menu features many traditional Danish dishes like agurkesalat and smorrebrod.  My friend went a little conservative, ordering the Burger ($14), grass fed beef topped with bacon, lettuce, tomato, hopscotch cheddar, fried onions and aioli.  He added a side of Pomme Frites ($8).  Solid menu choices.

My husband went for the Beet Salad ($13) made up of  a variety of beets mixed with quinoa, arugula, almonds and topped with a lime vinaigrette.  It was not the biggest salad serving, but it was tasty.  He also ordered the Mozzarella and Basil Flatbread ($11).  This, on the other hand, was a generous portion of pizza.  If you are looking for a shareable appetizer, we recommend one of the flatbreads.

I ordered the Knackwurst ($14).  It was veal and pork sausage topped with red cabbage served on buttery bread.  The menu said it was also topped with apple, but I didn’t see much apple.  Despite the missing apple, the Knackwurst was delicious.

We are elated that Mikkeller Bar is finally open.  It’s an awesome addition to the neighborhood.  This bar/restaurant is a great place to grab dinner, meet friends for a drink, and even party after an event at L.A. Live.  Cheers to Mikkeller Bar!
