For about a year, Ben McMillan set up his White Boy Taco cart along Broadway in DTLA catering to the hungry late-night munchie crowd and the neighborhood homeless population. He used Instagram and other social media platforms to alert people of his nightly location. Well, you no longer need to go looking for the White Boy Taco cart. Ben has moved White Boy Tacos into a permanent location at 206 W. 8th Street (between Broadway and Spring). During the day, the space is a traditional Mexican Restaurant, but when it closes Ben moves in and serves his non-traditional White Boy Tacos from 5pm to 3am.
To help you find the place, he sets up a White Boy Taco sign on the sidewalk, and inside a large White Boy Tacos sheet hangs behind the counter. He serves up 6 different varieties (steak, chicken, pork, shrimp, fish and vegetarian) of very original tacos ($3), burritos ($8) and quesadillas ($9). No beans and rice here. These are truly White Boy Tacos… LOL!
I went for the taco trio ($8). The Rooster Cogburn taco is made up of Seagrams whiskey-marinated steak with hash browns, yellow and red bell peppers, green onion, cilantro, topped with homemade Sriracha aioli. The Lieutenant Dan is made up of ginger and lime marinated USA sources shrimp with homemade coleslaw served with a lime wedge. The Maniel Uribe is 10-hour slow-cooked BBQ pulled pork with hickory smoked bacon, homemade coleslaw topped with queso fresco. They were all good, but the pork was my favorite. DELICIOUS!
My husband ordered the Foghorn Leghorn burrito made up of Ozeki Sake and soy marinated chicken breast with scrambled eggs, red and yellow bell peppers, green onion and cilantro with the homemade Old Bay ailoi on the side. He needed to add a little Tapatio hot sauce, but then ate it all up.
White Boy Tacos is throwing an official grand opening party on February 18th with $1 tacos all night, plus giveaways and special guests. But why wait, White Boy Tacos is already open Monday-Saturday (closed Sunday) from 5pm to 3am. See you there!
