PRANK BAR NOW OPEN IN DTLA’S SOUTH PARK… NO JOKE!

img_6394DTLA’s South Park neighborhood has a new bar, and although the place is called Prank, it’s no joke.  It’s located on the corner of 11th and Hope in the base of the Luma residential building.  This 2,800-square-foot space has been empty since Luma was built 10 years ago. It’s now a beautiful bar and restaurant that really brings new life to the area.

My husband I stumbled along Prank the other night.  The front corner of the place has huge retractable windows, creating a massive open-air walk-up bar.  The inside is spectacularly designed with an additional bar and seating area upstairs.  Prank offers up a great list of signature cocktails.  It also has a great food menu with some very non-traditional bar food.  Everything on the menu is non-GMO, hormone and antibiotic-free.

What’s also great about the Prank menu is that it takes a unique approach to ordering.  All the menu items are paired with a cocktail, beer or wine… kinda like a happy meal for adults. It makes ordering very easy.  I ordered the Signature Salami ($18) and paired it with the suggested Trefethen Riesling.  It was black pepper salami, soft goat cheese, spicy & sweet red peppers and arugula on an Italian herb foccacia.  This sandwich was a bit spicy, but delicious.

My husband went for the Taco Trio ($18) paired with a beer.  He got three different tacos; filet mignon (with avocado, pica de gallo, cilantro and chimichurri), Seasonal Fish (with house pineapple salsa, slaw and chipolte creama) and Vegan (with quacolole, zucchini, tomatoes, potatoes and pickled veggies).  This dish was also a hit.

Prank will be a perfect neighborhood bar, but it is also a perfect place for a drink before an event at Staples Center or Microsoft Theater.  When you are in the South Park neighborhood, don’t forget about The Briks, Bottlerock, Arashi Sushi and Barcito.
