Remember Hummus Republic on 7th Street just east of Broadway? Well, it’s shut down, but it’s been replaced with 7th Street Cafe. The name 7th Street Cafe sounds a little boring, but its menu is not. The menu is filled with a wide range of original offerings, everything from fried mac & cheese balls to tiramisu pancakes.
My husband and I got invited to a tasting party this past weekend. We ordered the Chix on a Stick which is the restaurant’s signature version of chicken and waffles. It’s a waffle strip stuffed with chicken… on a stick. It comes with an incredible dipping sauce that was super spicy, but I kept eating it.
We also split the Mac & Patty. It’s a seasoned beef patty that is stacked with their house mac & cheese and served on sourdough bread. This thing was delicious… and I’m sure it will be even better when I scarf it down on my walk from from the bars at 2am.
I can’t wait to Go back and try the chicken strips breaded with Flamin’ Hots Cheetos… and something called The Fat Chick, bacon wrapped chicken stuffed with bell peppers, onions and smoked Gouda.
7th Street Cafe opens every day at 8am for breakfast and lunch. They shut down from 3pm to 5pm when they re-open for dinner. It’s open until 11pm, except on Friday and Saturdays when they stay open until 3am.
