If you have driven up Olive Street in Downtown Los Angeles lately, you have probably noticed a cute little building between 7th and 8th streets. It’s the the home of DTLA’s newest taco stand called Chicas Tacos. Chicas’ tacos are $4.50 each, and before you gasp let me say they are gourmet tacos made with high quality ingredients, including fresh and organic produce with non-GMO free-range meats and wild caught fish.
There are five different kinds of tacos on the menu… and we ordered one of each. Our favorite was the Fish Taco made with beer battered fish, Caesar salad, croutons, morita salsa and queso manchego. Delicious! The Veggie Taco is filled with cauliflower chorizo, queso panela, marinated mushrooms, avocado sauce, chile toraedo and cilantro.
Okay, we ordered way too much food. These tacos are bigger and fuller than your average taco, but we kept on eating. The Steak Taco is stuffed with peppered Angus steak along with crispy potatoes, queso, radish, pequin salsa and cilantro. The Chicken Taco is made with marinated chicken, Baja med salad, feta and cilantro. And finally, there’s the Pork Taco with chile verde, chicharron, roasted tomatillo salsa, caramelized onions and cilantro.
If that wasn’t enough food, we also got a side of guacamole and chips. It was all delicious with just the right amount of spice. If you are looking for more heat they offer up a variety of additional sauces. There are a few seats inside the restaurant but the seating area outside is the real attraction. It’s a cute little area of picnic tables along side a shiny Airstream travel trailer. Chicas Tacos opens at 10:30am daily, and closes late each night. If you are a taco connoisseur, you need to check this place out.
