The Taiwanese bakery chain called 85°C Bakery Cafe is now open in DTLA. It takes over the space that was once a Famima at the corner of Wilshire and Hope. The place is called 85 Degrees because that’s the temperature at which coffee best holds it’s flavor. We checked out the bakery a few days ago. We didn’t try the coffee, but we did sample several of their bakery offerings… and we’re hooked. There are dozens of breads, baked goods and cakes to choose… making a decision is tough! Seriously, there is an entire wall of bread choices… and then another huge display case of cakes.
My favorite was the Hawaiian Chicken brick toast ($2.50). It’s chicken, pineapple with tomato sauce on fresh baked bread. I loved it. I want another one right now. Delicious!
My husband loved something called the Berrytale ($1.50). It’s a pastry filled with blueberry cream cheese with a drop of blueberry jam on top. He liked it so much I almost didn’t get to try it.
Although it looks amazing, we will pass next time on the Walnut Tart ($3.00). It’s a glazed walnut cluster on top of a crusted tart. It was good, but just boring… especially compared to the other choices.
The serving sizes are generous, and the prices are reasonable. There are only 4 or 5 seats inside the restaurant, so 85°C Bakery Cafe is a great place to grab a quick bite to eat when you are on the go.
