My husband loves salads. If it was up to him, we would eat salad for every meal. He was in Nashville for business, and if you have ever been to Nashville you know the food there is great, but they don’t really offer up too many salads. So as soon as he arrived back in Los Angeles all he wanted was a salad. I was hoping for a romantic candle lit reunion dinner. He wanted a salad.
He has his go-to salad place. It’s the Simply Salad on Hope Street just north of 9th Street, next to the Ralph’s. He stops here for our dinner at least once a week. They serve both salads and wraps. Their Build Your Own Salad starts at $6.75 and includes 5 toppings. There are over 30 different basic toppings plus if you want to splurge you can add additional toppings, premium toppings, meats, seafood and cheeses. Then they mix it all together and chop it up. It’s simply delicious. They turn a healthy salad into a tasty meal.
They also have their Signature Salads. My husband is all about the El Paso Salad ($9.75). It’s Romaine and iceberg lettuce with grilled chicken, kidney beans, tortilla strips, grilled corn, pepper jack, grape tomatoes, and avocado. He adds the Spicy Chipotle dressing.
He normally gets me The Hipster ($10.75). I hate the name, but I love the salad. It’s their Simply Salad mixed greens with grilled chicken, goat cheese, dried cherries, candied walnuts, and granny smith apples. But last night I changed things up. I ordered the Sorta Steak-Out ($11.50): Romaine and arugula with steak, bacon, asparagus, blue cheese, caramelized onions and corn topped with the horseradish dressing. This salad was on their Specials board. It’s not on their standard menu, but I hope they add it. I really enjoyed it.
Simply Salad also serves wraps, but we have not tried them. Their salad portions are quite generous and the people who work at the Hope/9th location could not be friendlier. There is another DTLA location at Main and 3rd Streets. If you are craving a salad, or just need to eat healthy after bingeing in Nashville, I highly recommend Simply Salad. It’s quick, easy and delicious.
