OMG! Have you tried Ocho Mexican Grill (OMG – get it) yet? If you are craving Mexican food but trying to eat healthy, you need to check this place out. Ocho serves great, healthy Mexican food at a very reasonable price. My husband loves Ocho, and since he works downtown, he goes there for lunch at least once a week. I’ve tagged along several times, but just haven’t gotten around to writing about it.
Ocho is very similar to Chiplote, except you won’t get a side of E. coli at Ocho. Whatever you do, don’t get the two restaurants confused. The food at Ocho “is prepared sustainably fresh, sourced locally and served in an eco-friendly fashion. Inspired by the Mexican food ingrained in the fabric of L.A., and by the health-conscious lifestyle of Angelenos, Ocho dishes out a gourmet and healthy approach to classic Mexican cuisine.”
You can order bowls, salads, burritos, wraps or tacos. Because there are so many different toppings to choose from, there are over 800 ways to eat Ocho! I ordered a salad ($9.00) topped with brown rice, pinto beans, chicken, corn, pico de gallo, hot sauce and cheese. Next time you have a craving for Mexican food, head on over to Ocho…your stomach will say OMG. If you are really hungry order a burrito. They are monstrous. If you want spicy, go for the “red hot” salsa. If you want really spicy, ask for the habanero (if you dare).
There are two Ocho Mexican Grill locations in Downtown Los Angeles. If you see a line out the door at lunchtime, don’t worry it moves fast. The staff could not be more friendly. The 3rd & Grand location (255 So. Grand Avenue) is closed on Sundays. The 6th & Hope location (630 W. 6th Street) is closed on weekends.
