Pitchoun! Boulangerie & Patisserie is about to celebrate its one year anniversary. The French restaurant and bakery opened across from Pershing Square back in April 2015. It appears to be doing well, as every time I walk by it’s crowded. Since opening, they have added a new wine bar with a happy hour from 4-7pm featuring a selection of specially curated wines. The real draw for me though is the food. The other day I met my husband for lunch. Of course he ordered healthy and went with the Pan Bagnat ($13.50). Okay, that sounds like a lot for a tuna fish sandwich, but it was really good. It’s tuna, tomato, hard-boiled egg, lettuce, olives, radish, bell pepper, celery, green onions, anchovies with a classic vinaigrette on a French roll.
I went for the calories and ordered the Melted Cheese sandwich ($8.70). It’s Swiss, mozzarella and blue cheeses melted with butter on pain de mie sandwich bread. This sandwich was delicious… probably the best grilled cheese sandwich ever! The three different cheese were melted together… yum! Oh, and I was a little healthy… it came with a small side salad.
I really like this place. Check out the restaurant’s website for a look at the full menu, including the happy hour specials. It’s located on Olive Street, just on the west side of Pershing Square. If you have not tried it yet, I highly recommend it. Bon Appetit!
