Is it just me, or is anyone else always disappointed in the food at Rosa Mexicano at L.A. Live? With the exception of their guacamole (which is awesome), the food there is just boring. It’s not bad, just bland. I recently ordered the Costilla Mestiza ($22) enchiladas. It’s chipotle-braised beef with mestiza sauce, crema, cilantro, onion and queso fresco in corn tortillas. It sounds great, right? Well, the best part of the dish was the side of achiote rice.
My husband ordered the Tres Enchiladas ($23) which is promoted as “a taste of Rosa Mexicano’s signature enchiladas.” You get three enchiladas; one Ranchera, one Suiza and one Mestiza. He too agreed… not bad, just boring. I think the restaurant caters to the tourist crowd at L.A. Live, so they play it safe.
Next time I’m craving Mexican food (probably in a few minutes), I’m heading to Tacos El Gavilan and get some authentic Mexican food at a fraction of the price.
