IMG_0122For the past few weeks I have been admiring (and drooling) over Chickano Quesadilla Bar’s Instagram page.  They have posted photo after photo of some amazing looking quesadillas.  Well, I finally got to try them… and they taste as good as they look.

IMG_0116Chickano Quesadilla Bar is based in University Park, the area between DTLA and USC, but it isn’t a brick and mortar restaurant.  It uses the Foodie Shares app so you order your food online and either have it delivered or pick it up.  Foodie Shares describes itself as “a platform for great cooks to share their culinary masterpieces with others and make connections to people who love their food.”  In other words, it allows at-home chefs to sell their food without the high costs of running a restaurant.

IMG_0117Chickano is currently offering six different varieties of grilled quesadilla: Queso, California, Mexicano, Chick-ana, Club and BBQ.  All the quesadillas are made with handmade flour tortillas, Monterey jack and mozzarella cheeses, plus fresh produce and meats.  We tried two Chickano quesadillas.  They arrived warm, wrapped in aluminum foil, labeled in brown paper bags.  First up was the Club quesadilla ($7) made with shredded chicken breast, bacon, tomato, red onion and chipotle aioli.  Loved it.  The second was the BBQ quesadilla ($7) also made with shredded chicken breast plus BBQ sauce, bacon, cilantro and red onion.  It too was delicious.  All their quesadillas are served with a side of salsa that needs to come with a word of warning.  This salsa is spicy… really good… but very spicy.

IMG_0115The FoodieShares app charges a $5 delivery fee, or you can pick up your order in University Park for no additional charge.  Right now, there is a promo code that waves the $5 delivery charge, just type in CHICKA.  Right now they are only cooking on Sundays and Mondays.  If you like quesadillas, I encourage you to give Chickano Quesadilla Bar a try for lunch or dinner.  Not only do you get great food and a good price, you are also helping an aspiring chef in his quest to one day open a restaurant in DTLA.
