BIERBEISL IMBISS RESTAURANT NOW SERVING AUSTRIAN STREET FOOD IN SPRING ARCADE BUILDING

bierBierBeisl Imbiss is now open and serving “modern Austrian street food” in Downtown Los Angeles’s Spring Arcade building.  DTLAexplorer first got excited about this new restaurant back in April… and finally checked it out.

Let’s first talk about the name.  What is an “imbiss?”   It’s a German word that means “snack,” often smaller than a regular meal and generally eaten between meals.  Well, I’m always ready to eat… so count me in!  According to the website, many “imbiss” stands are located outdoors and rarely feature a place where you can sit and enjoy your meals.   BierBeisl Imbiss has communal seating inside and additional countertop seating outside under the Spring Arcade atrium.

The restaurant specialties in sausages, farm-to-table salads, traditional Austrian sandwiches and pastries… plus beer!  The menu was a little overwhelming because there are many different items to choose… but the staff was happy to answer all our questions.  I randomly choose the Nurnberger ($8), which was two pieces of classic German bratwurst made of pork and veal.  It came with a choice of bread.  I went for the pretzel.  I also ordered a 10 oz. glass of Stiegl Grapefruit Radler beer ($6).  My husband was less adventurous and ordered the Turkey Bratwurst ($7) with the pretzel, a side of the shoestring fries ($5) and a Rieder black currant flavored soda ($4).  The sausage presentation is not all that visually appealing, served on beige disposable plates with a dollop of mustard, but I loved all my food (plus most of my husband’s fries) and the beer.  He was not as impressed.

We didn’t order any pastries, but OMG they are all made on location and looked amazing, especially the cream filled tube pastry called the Schaumroll ($3).  I can’t wait to go back and get one (or two).  BierBeisl Imbiss will be a great place to meet friends to have a few beers and some food.  They have something for everyone including a great list of draft and bottle beers, plus a nice wine selection.  It’s open everyday 8am to 2am!  Just a head’s up… A service charge of 18% will be automatically added to each order, so don’t double tip!
