We were out exploring DTLA today and came across Madame Monsieur Sandwich Boutique on West 6th Street. It’s a welcoming little restaurant with a few tables and umbrellas in front. The interior space is designed to look and feel like a Paris apartment. The restaurant’s website boasts, “freshly-prepared sandwiches made from high quality bread. The varied meat, fish and vegetable fillings are an original adaptation of traditional French style and the products are neatly-wrapped to maintain maximum freshness.”
My husband and I both ordered the House Special: 2 petite sandwiches and a side salad for $11. He ordered the Le Tuna and the La Turkey sandwiches with a side of the Quinoa & Red Wine Salad. I got the Le Chicken and the Le Croque Monsieur ($1 extra) sandwiches with a side of the Season Salad.
Let’s start with the sandwiches. Each is lightly toasted and made on delicate Pullman bread. The Le Tuna is white albacore tuna, fresh tomatoes, basil, olive oil and homemade pesto. The Le Turkey is hand-carved turkey with cream cheese, cranberries and arugula. The Le Chicken is all-natural chicken, parmigiano, sun-dried tomatoes, baby spinach with old fashioned grain mustard. These sandwiches were nicely made and delicious, especially the bread, but now let’s talk about the Le Croque Monsieur. It cost an additional $1, and worth it. It’s their “famous small grilled cheese bistro sandwich” with Jambon de Paris (ham), caramelized Gruyere cheese, crème fraiche and Dijon mustard. OMG! This little sandwich was so delicious!
The Quinoa & Red Wine Salad is quinoa with fresh tomatoes, cranberries, roasted pine nuts, mint, garden parsley with red wine dressing. It was good, but needed a little more red wine dressing. The Season Salad was cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, Kalamata olives, fresh basil with olive oil.
Madame Monsieur also serves up baguette sandwiches, quiches, soups and pastries. I can’t wait to go back and try everything on the menu! Madame Monsieur serves breakfast from 7:30am to 10:30am, and lunch until 4:30pm Monday through Friday. Sadly it is closed on weekends.
