The new Triple 8 China Bar & Grill on Olympic Boulevard at L.A. Live has been open a few weeks and it appears to be doing very well. The restaurant has one of the best happy hours in DTLA, in fact it has two. There is a happy hour from 3pm to 7pm and then a late night happy hour from 11pm to 2am.
When you go, start with one of the half-price signature cocktails. I got the Shanghai Melon Mule ($6). It’s Grey Goose Le Melon Vodka, fresh lime juice and Cock & Bull Ginger Beer. Happy hour also includes select wines, sakes and well drinks ($6) and $1 off draft beers.
Happy hour at Triple 8 is also a great way to sample some of their most popular dishes. You must order the Plain Garlic Noodles ($6). Oh, and you need a serving of the Xiao Long Bao ($7) which are 6 small chicken or pork dumplings filled with soup. Don’t miss the 6 piece Chicken Dumplings ($7) too.
I high recommend the Crispy Pepper Calamari dish ($7). It’s lightly battered calamari tossed with garlic, jalapeno and green onion served with a side of spicy mayo sauce.
The service at Triple 8 is great, maybe too great. The second we were finished with a dish, there was someone there to whisk it away. If you are looking for a DTLA Happy Hour, you need to check out Triple 8 China Bar & Grill.
