Triple 8 China Bar and Grill officially opens on Wednesday, May 20th in the L.A. Live entertainment complex. Right now, Triple 8 is hosting friends and family events leading up to opening day. Last night, we got an opportunity to explore inside the 8,500 square foot restaurant and taste some of the food.
Back in October, Triple 8 started remodeling the space that once housed Trader Vic’s. The design of the restaurant is very different from the dark enclosed Trader Vic’s restaurant. Triple 8 is much more open and inviting. The front windows of the main dining room retract to an outside patio area. In addition to the bar, there are separate rooms on each side of the restaurant that appear to be private dining rooms or special event spaces. The entire rear portion of the restaurant is a bright open kitchen where you can see the chefs and support staff at work.
Triple 8 will serve what is described as a contemporary take on northern and southern Chinese cuisine. Although the menu has not been revealed yet, we are told it will be anchored with flavors from all regions of China. We got to sample some of Triple 8’s signature dishes including Peking duck and Xiao Long Bao (small dumplings with soup inside) and try their signature cocktail called the Triple 8. It was all delicious and we look forward to dining there soon.
A recent Triple 8 press release says they will serve lunch and dinner, but we are also hearing that they will be open for breakfast, plus have a special happy hour and late night happy hour menu. Triple 8 will be the only restaurant at L.A. Live that is open until 2am.
