The people at Live Basil Pizza in L.A. Live claim to have “the freshest pizza you’ll ever eat… …made to honor the heritage of Naples.” The Neapolitan-style pizza at Live Basil is made right in front of you by some very friendly employees. They don’t start making it until you tell them exactly what you want on it, then they pop it in these giant brick ovens and a few minutes later you have your pizza. If you tried Live Basil Pizza when it first opened at L.A. Live you probably remember the backlog to place an order. They have since remodeled the restaurant and sped up the ordering process.
I ordered the pizza on their menu called “The LA.” It’s made with white sauce, Italian cheese blend, shaved Parmesan, marinated wild mushrooms, wild arugula and imported Italian truffle oil ($9.95). It was good, but I think it needed to stay in the oven a little longer. I would have preferred the crust a bit crispier.
If you are going to an event at L.A. Live, and you want to grab a quick, reasonably priced meal before the show, sure, pop into Live Basil Pizza, it’s a fine choice. But I would suggest you go next door to Smashburger, or if you have a little extra time go grab a table at Tom’s Urban.
