ARASHI SUSHI IN DTLA’S SOUTH PARK SERVES UP BEAUTIFUL AND DELICIOUS FOOD

20150114_182428When you go out for sushi in DTLA you normally get what you pay for.  Some places serve some spectacular sushi but at outrageous prices.  Others serve their pre-made sushi on conveyor belts for just $2 a plate.  Well, if you are looking for something in between, you need to check out Arashi Sushi on 11th Street tucked between Hope and Flower Streets.

The head chef and owner is Ken Park.  He has a 20-year background in creating sushi, most notably at Shilla Seoul Hotel and the Hilton Seoul Hotel. His philosophy is that a dish must be both beautiful and taste delicious in order to appeal to an American palate.

We go to Arashi Sushi often.  The wait staff is friendly and efficient, but always rushed or hurried.  Sometimes I think they might need some help.  We like to sit at the sushi bar and watch the chefs in action.  The sushi chefs always smile and welcome us, but they are not very chatty.  I’m not sure if its a language barrier or if they are just too busy to talk.  Our favorite thing on the menu is the Baked Lobster Roll.  It’s perfect, but just about everything they make is perfect.

If you are looking for something different, try the Poke Cup ($6.95)  It’s mixed sashimi with avocado and tomato topped with the Chef’s special sauce.  We also love the Salmon Pearl ($7.95).  It’s salmon sashimi topped with salmon egg, sprouts, jalapeno and a citrus soy sauce.

On game nights at Staples Center, Arashi can get busy so call ahead and make reservations.  This is a great time to sit on their outside patio and do some people watching as you enjoy your meal.
