Ford’s Filling Station is located in the lobby of the JW Marriott Hotel in L.A. Live. It’s named for Chef Ben Ford (Harrison Ford’s son) who moved the restaurant from Culver City to DTLA last year. Hurray for Downtown Los Angeles. Ford’s Filling Station is described as a unique blend of west coast flavors with a southwest influence. I say it’s comfort food at it’s finest.
We started with the Deviled Eggs ($8). Honestly, not our favorite dish of the night, but next came the White Cheddar Bacon Biscuits ($3). These babies are served with maple brown butter. Delish!
For our main courses, I ordered the Shrimp & Grits ($26). It’s exactly what you expect, shrimp on a bed of smoked cheddar grits. My husband went for the hamburger ($18). It tasted exactly what an $18 hamburger should taste like.
The surprise of the night was the Whole Roasted Cauliflower ($11). Let me guess what you are thinking… $11 for a head of cauliflower? I know, right. It was covered in garlic, capers, rosemary and lemon. It was so good. Sadly my photo looks horrible. Believe me, it tasted way better than it looks.
Finally we ended with the Chocolate Bread Pudding ($11). It was covered in a warm toffee sauce and served with toasted marshmallow ice cream. I licked the plate and I wanted to order a second helping.
I think Ford’s Filling Station is a bit on the pricey side, but you get great food and excellent service. It’s a great special occasion restaurant.
