We found a new place to drink in DTLA. It’s called The Love Song Bar. It’s part of the newly renovated Regent Theater on Main Street. When you walk in, you feel like you are entering someone’s hip living room, complete with a leather sofa and piano. There are groovy nicknacks all around the bar and vintage vinyl playing on the record player. This place is very well-done!
We bypassed the sofa and the tables, and headed to the bar. The drink menu is filled with “rocktails,” craft cocktails inspired by the music scene like the Black Sabbath or Tom Wait’s Old Fashioned. As Anthony the bartender explained to us, their drinks are “liquor forward.” I ordered the Primus ($12). It was a combination of lime, honey, Campari, Suerte tequila, bitters and mint. Delicious! My husband wanted beer but was not familiar with some of the options so Anthony offered up some suggestions and even a quick tasting.
A friend joined us, and he ordered the Boulevardier ($12), It was Campari, bourbon and sweet vermouth. Now if you are in a hurry, this is not the place for you. The bartenders here make their drinks from scratch, so it takes a few minutes, but it’s worth the wait.
We moved from the bar to a table and ordered a few items off the food menu. Prufrock’s Pizza is part of the Regent Theater and they service the bar. First up was the White Bean Bruschetta ($6). It was four pieces of a white bean paste on soft pretzel bread. It was really clean and refreshing tasting.
We also ordered the Kale e Brussels ($10). This was kale and Brussels sprout salad with roasted almonds. It was good, but needed some sort of dressing. It got a little dry after the first few bites.
The Love Song Bar is a drinking den. It was warm and cozy. The bartender was ultra-friendly. It was just a welcoming and relaxing place. I can’t wait to go back!
