My husband and I have a few “go to” places for take-out on those night’s that we don’t want to cook dinner. One of them is Lawry’s Carvery in L.A. Live. We are creatures of habit at this place. We get the same thing every time and we split it. First, it’s the Southwestern Chop Salad ($14.99). It’s warm spicy beef together with pepper Jack cheese, corn, black beans, red bell peppers, tomatoes, cilantro, green onions on mixed greens topped with BBQ lime ranch dressing and tortilla crisps. This salad is great. I’m not the biggest fan of salad but the meat on this one is spicy, so it adds a lot of flavor. Then we get the King of Clubs sandwich ($10.99). It’s turkey, bacon, avocado, tomatoes, lettuce and lemon basil mayonnaise on a French roll. They throw in some potato chips and a pickle. There’s nothing fancy about this one. You know exactly what you are going to get: a solid turkey club sandwich.
This place always has a line out the door on concert or game nights at Staples Center, but did you know that you can call ahead, place your order over the phone and they will have it ready for you by the time you get there? Yep, you get to bypass the line, get your food and get out of there. Lawry’s Carvery 1011 So. Figueroa Street (in L.A. Live) 213.222.2212
