As things heat up in DTLA one of the best ways to cool down is at Gelateria Uli. The gelato and sorbet shop is located in the beautiful and revitalized Spring Arcade Building. If you have not been to the Spring Arcade Building, click on the link. You have to go check this amazing building out.
Okay, back to Gelateria Uli. It is named after the owner, Uli Nasibova, a DTLA resident who turned her hobby of making gelato into a business. She now makes her gelato and sorbets daily in the shop’s kitchen, offering up 16 flavors each day. Of course there are the traditional flavors like chocolate and pistachio, but what makes Gelateria Uli different is that you have the opportunity to suggest a flavor and if Uli decides to make your creation, you get a free pint. She has already created Thai Tea and Toasted Black Sesame flavors from online suggestions.
We see on the Suggest-a-Flavor section of her website that people have made some pretty interesting suggestions like Curry Cilantro and Wasabi Chocolate. I’ll pass on both of those and stick to her pistachio gelato. It’s delicious.
