If you are looking for a good hearty sandwich, you need to head straight to Eat.Drink.Americano on East 3rd Street in the Arts District. All their meat products come from organic farms and have been compassionately raised without antibiotics or hormones. This place prides itself on serving up locally sourced produce, artisanal cheeses and rustic breads. In other words, this place makes some amazing sandwiches.
My husband and I have been here for lunch a few times, and we always order the same thing. He gets the half Roasted Turkey Club ($8.95). We are not sure why they call this “half” because it’s plenty of food. It’s turkey, applewood smoked bacon and Tillamock cheddar cheese topped with tomatoes, butter lettuce and organic basil oil all on this incredible French bread.
I go for the half Niman’s Roast Beef (8.95). It’s roast beef topped with caramelized onions, provolone cheese and atomic horseradish on the same amazing bread. Let’s talk about the “atomic” horseradish. The first time I ordered the server asked if I wanted the horseradish on the side. I thought that was an odd question and I politely declined. Well, calling this stuff “atomic” is an understatement. My mouth was on fire and that stuff cleared out my sinuses. It was so damn hot, but I could not stop eating it.
The next time I ordered it I asked for the horseradish on the side, but then I still smeared it all over the sandwich anyway. I don’t know what’s in it, but it is so good you can’t stop eating it, even though you are about to breakout in a sweat.
The vibe here is quite relaxed. The interior is very industrial with exposed brick, wooden chairs and communal tables, an awesome chandelier made of empty wine bottles, and a giant wall size chalkboard. My only complaint about this place is that parking in the area is horrible, but that’s not just this restaurant, that’s most of the Arts District.
